Incentives for biomass heat utilization

Reduce thermal costs, make the most of waste, access subsidies for biomass plants

Blue Bio - Incentives for Use of Heat from Biomass
OUR VALUE

Biomass heat

Heat represents one of the main energy components in industrial and civil production processes.
Replacing traditional fossil fuels with renewable sources such as biomass - wood chips, pellets, agricultural by-products or wood residues - enables companies to reduce operating costs, contain climate-changing emissions and access dedicated incentive tools.

With this in mind, White Energy has developed the Blue Bio model, through which it is possible to enhance the value of heat produced from biomass through the allocation of Blue Certificates®, an economic incentive that can be combined with other existing measures.

existing measures.

The service proposed by White Energy includes:

Through this approach, the environmental and energy contribution of biomass thermal plants can be recognized and enhanced, turning the heat produced into a concrete lever for business sustainability and profitability.

SERVICE

Blue Bio

The Blue Bio service, developed by White Energy, is based on a structured model for economically enhancing the value of heat produced by biomass plants.
Heat is generated by a biomass-fired plant, managed by a dedicated company (NewCo or other responsible party), which also takes care of the distribution network. The heat is then supplied to direct customers and external utilities through a dedicated network, with delivery points equipped with certified meters to ensure measurement and billing of the heat energy.

This configuration allows access to two complementary forms of incentive: the Blue Certificates®, which value thermal energy tracked and used, and the Conto Termico, intended for the replacement of existing plants with more efficient biomass technologies.

Through Blue Bio, White Energy offers a comprehensive service that combines technical design, plant implementation and management of the entire process for obtaining incentives.

caso studio bonollo

The project

logo bonollo Initial context
Bonollo is a historic distillery in Veneto with a strong focus on innovation and sustainability. The high thermal requirements for distillation and ambient heating processes represented a significant energy cost, initially covered by fossil fuels.

Implemented solution
Thanks to the Blue Bio model developed by White Energy, Bonollo has implemented a district heating network powered by a biomass plant, capable of valorizing the heat produced and tracking its use according to Blue Certificates® criteria.

  • Investment: €800,000 for district heating network
  • Technology: Biomass plant with certified distributed heat measurement
  • Incentives activated: Blue Certificates® + possible Conto Termico (where applicable)

Results
  • Self-consumed thermal energy (CDI): 11,725 MWh_th / quarter
  • Thermal energy supplied to external utilities (CDI): 1,190 MWh_th / quarter
  • Average potential tax credit: about €257,300/quarter
  • Emissions avoided: significant reduction in climate-changing emissions
  • Strategic value: heat as a lever of efficiency and profitability

caso studio tampieri

The project

logo tampieri Tampieri is a major industrial group based in Faenza, Italy, active in agribusiness processing and energy production. The site was served by a fossil-fueled district heating network.

Implemented Solution
Whitenergy developed a new biomass-fueled district heating system on behalf of Tampieri Energie, converting the Galleria Naviglio network from fossil to renewable. The system was configured to access Blue Certificates®, generating additional economic value.

  • Technology: Biomass plant for thermal supply and distribution network
  • Incentives activated: Blue Certificates® + cumulability with other measures

Results
  • Environmental benefits: full replacement of fossil source, traceability of avoided emissions.
  • Thermal energy delivered to utilities (CDI): 7,760 MWh_th / quarter
  • Average potential tax credit: about €162,700/quarter

Frequently asked questions

Do you have doubts? Here are the most helpful answers about the Blue BIO service:

  • What are Blue Certificates®?

Blue Certificates are a tax benefit intended for users who use heat from district heating networks powered by biomass or geothermal sources. The network operator can also benefit from them for the share of self-consumed energy, within the limits of the costs incurred in producing the heat (maintenance, electricity, personnel, etc.). Reportable costs include direct and indirect expenses. Note: For farms without business income, it is necessary to introduce a heat operator to access the benefit.

  • Who is the Blue Bio service aimed at?

Blue Bio is aimed at companies and individuals who use biomass-fueled heat generators that comply with current regulations. Ideal recipients include: the wood industry, the agri-food sector, the civil-residential sector, medium to large hospitality facilities, large-scale retail trade, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as all energy-intensive businesses with constant thermal needs.

  • Can Blue Certificates® be combined with other incentives?

Yes. The Blue Bio service is designed to be compatible with other tools such as the Conto Termico and White Certificates. This allows you to maximize the payback and access multiple incentive lines at the same time.

  • For how many years do you get the grant?

Blue Certificates® are recognized for as long as the plant and distribution network meet the technical and regulatory criteria required by the incentive mechanism, including the heat metering and tracking system.
