SERVICE
Green CHP
The Green CHP service consists of two main phases: Construction of the Cogeneration Plant and Operation with Guaranteed Savings.
Through an EPC (Energy Performance Contract), Whitenergy takes charge of every design, technical and financial phase, transforming your consumption into measurable efficiency, reduced cost energy and economic incentives through White Certificates.
1st Phase - CHP Plant Implementation
Whitenergy carries out a preliminary technical-economic study and, through an SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle), designs and implements a high-efficiency CHP plant.
The SPV invests directly in the intervention, using mixed financing sources (bank debt + Whitenergy equity), without any outlay from the customer.
2nd Phase - Management with Guaranteed Saving
Once the plant is activated, Whitenergy takes care of its technical and administrative management, ensuring:
- The sale of the energy produced (electric, thermal and refrigeration) to the customer at a reduced price compared to the pre-intervention situation;
- obtaining CAR TEEs (White Certificates from High-Yield Cogeneration);
- Sharing the economic benefit from TEE with the customer.
The customer thus benefits from concrete and guaranteed energy savings, without having to deal with technical management or incentive bureaucracy.

Green CHP

The Project
Initial situation:
Energy-intensive ceramic plant without high-efficiency equipment. Need to contain energy costs and reduce emissions.
The intervention:
A new 3.3 MWe cogeneration plant was built in ESCo mode through an EPC contract, managed by an SPV (Energia Futura). Whitenergy handled the permitting, financing, construction, and assumed the maintenance burden.
The intervention enables combined heat and power generation with high efficiency, generating Energy Efficiency Certificates (TEE CARs).
Achievements:
- Total estimated economic savings over 10 years: €14 million
- CO₂ emissions reduction: over 9,600 tons per year
- TEE: generated annually through CAR
- Reporting period: 11 years
- Investment: €3.0 million (fully borne by Whitenergy)

The Project
Initial situation:
High consumption of electricity and thermal energy. Aim to optimize costs, reduce fossil consumption and increase overall plant efficiency.
The intervention:
A revamping of a 4.4 MWe cogeneration plant, including a duplex boiler for steam production, was carried out in EPC mode with performance guarantee. The project was fully financed by Whitenergy, which is also in charge of operations and maintenance (O&M).
Achievements:
- Estimated energy savings: over 2,000 TOE per year
- Combined savings on electricity and thermal with significant reduction in operating costs
- Reporting period: 11 years
- Investment: €2.3 million (borne by Whitenergy)
- TEE CAR shared with the customer

What is the Green CHP service in EPC formula?
Green CHP is an EPC (Energy Performance Contract) mode service. This means that Whitenergy finances, builds and operates the entire CHP plant, assuming the risk of the investment. The customer gets energy at a reduced price and guaranteed minimum savings, without having to deal with technical management or incur any upfront costs.

What are CAR TEEs and how are they managed?
CAR TEEs (White Certificates from High-Yield Cogeneration) are economic incentives issued by the GSE against certified energy savings.
Whitenergy handles all the technical and administrative paperwork to obtain these bonds and shares them with the client, generating a direct financial return in addition to energy savings. -
How is this different from installing a system yourself?
With Green CHP, you don't have to invest capital, deal with permits or handle the technical and bureaucratic complexity.
Whitenergy assumes the entire risk: design, implementation, operation, maintenance and obtaining incentives. You get a high-efficiency plant already in operation and pay only for the energy produced, at a reduced price, without tying up company resources.
