The path of sustainability and energy efficiency of Italy’s large energy-intensive industries toward meeting global pollutant emission reduction targets continues.

Such as Distillerie Bonollo Umberto spa of Maestrino(Padua), which has chosen to give a boost to these processes with the startup-in its Conselve (Pd) plant-of a 1.5 MWe methane cogeneration plant that will provide great savings in terms of energy and environmental impact.

White Energy Group, an energy service company (ESCo) specializing in consulting and implementation of efficiency solutions for large industries, is responsible for the study of the intervention.

The plant built uses a 1,498 kW electric and 1,550 kW thermal gas reciprocating engine, and through the production of about 9.7 million annual electric kWh and about 10.1 million thermal kWh for the distillery processes, it will result in an annual reduction of about 1,250 tons of oil equivalent, which in turn will result in a saving of about 2,500 tons of CO2 equivalent, compared to the supply of energy from the power grid.

White Energy Group has followed Distillerie Bonollo through the various stages of the project and in particular: the analysis of the plant’s energy consumption; the choice of the optimal technology among alternative engines, gas/steam turbine, ORC, etc.; support in the definition and optimization of thermal vectors; the application for connection to the electricity grid, customs; CAR prequalification, preliminary to the application for and obtaining CAR TEEs.

“This project demonstrates the attention of Distillerie Bonollo Umberto, which already has photovoltaic, biomass, and biogas plants fueled by its own processing waste, to aspects related to sustainability, environmental protection, and the circular economy, in full harmony with what are Whitenergy’s values,” comments Franco Asuni, business developer of Whitenergy.

“It has long been our goal to focus on saving energy in our plants and the related decrease in the environmental impact of our productions. Fundamental on this occasion was Whitenergy’s support in identifying the specific technical solution of efficiency recovery and economic analysis,” says Filippo Bonollo
