Green HEAT IMG02
OUR VALUE

A fossil-free alternative
to traditional boilers

Green Heat is Whitenergy 's service for companies that want to decarbonize process heat and reduce costs without tying up capital.
Green Heat replaces natural gas boilers with thermal generation systems from renewable sources, recovering waste heat and using green electricity or sustainable biomass.
Under the ESCo - EPC (Energy Performance Contract) Guaranteed Saving formula, Whitenergy finances, designs, builds and operates high-efficiency renewable thermal systems (HT-HP and biomass), ensuring:

Green Heat

The Green Heat service is a fully financed ESCo solution that replaces conventional natural gas boilers with high-temperature industrial heat pumps (HT-HP), capable of producing hot, superheated water or low-pressure steam by recovering industrial waste heat. This technology is a fossil-free alternative to industrial boilers, reducing costs, emissions and dependence on natural gas.
The intervention is designed, financed and fully managed by White Energy in ESCo mode, with guaranteed economic returns and access to Energy Efficiency Certificates (TEE).

How it works
The system recovers low-temperature heat (>50 °C) from industrial processes, evaporative towers or refrigeration units, and redevelops it to a useful temperature (>80 °C, up to >120 °C for steam production).
The heat thus regenerated is reused in processes, eliminating or reducing the need for fossil fuels.

This solution makes it possible to:

Green HEAT IMG04

The project | Paper mill

Initial situation:
The paper mill had a high consumption of methane for the production of superheated water and low-pressure steam used in the paper drying stages.

Intervention:
Whitenergy has built a Green Heat plant based on 2.8 MWt high-temperature industrial heat pumps (HT-HP), which recover heat from exhaust air streams and process water (≈55 °C), retraining it up to 105 °C to feed the drying lines.

The project was developed in ESCo mode through EPC contract, with dedicated SPV for financing, technical management and maintenance (O&M).
The plant exclusively uses electricity from renewable sources through green PPA.

Achievements:

  • Total estimated economic savings over 10 years: €11.5 million
  • CO₂ emissions reduction: over 5,200 tons/year
  • TEEs obtained: recognized for 11 years and shared with the customer
  • EPC contract term: 12 years
  • Investment: €2.6 million (fully borne by Whitenergy)

Green HEAT IMG05

The Project | Dairy

Initial situation:
Dairy company with high consumption of methane for process water heating, washing and sanitizing, with rising costs and need to reduce Scope 1 emissions.

The Intervention:
Whitenergy installed a 1.5 MWt automated biomass plant, fuelled by local wood chips, integrated with a 600 kWt HT-HP heat pump system for heat recovery from cooling circuits.
The system provides hot water and steam at 90-120 °C for the production lines, reducing gas consumption by 85%.
The project was implemented under an EPC formula, fully financed and managed by Whitenergy, with remote monitoring and performance guarantee.

Achievements:

  • Overall energy savings: over 1,800 TOE/year
  • Thermal cost reduction: -35% OPEX per year
  • CO₂ avoided: about 4,700 tons/year
  • TEE reporting period: 10 years
  • Customer investment: 0 € (charged to Whitenergy)
  • TEE shared with the customer

Frequently asked questions

Do you have doubts? Here are the most helpful answers about the Green Heat service:

  • In what cases is it worthwhile to install
a Green Heat system instead of a natural gas boiler?

Green Heat is ideal when there are waste heat sources or continuous processes with high thermal demand (hot, superheated water or steam).
    Convenience increases in contexts where:

    - the cost of methane and CO₂ is high;
    - you aim for decarbonization (Scope 1);
    - you want to stabilize the thermal cost for the next 10-15 years. In these cases, heat pump or biomass in ESCo formula drastically reduce OPEX and emissions, without CAPEX.

  • What is the difference between a heat pump
industrial HT-HP and a conventional one?

HT-HPs (High Temperature Heat Pumps) operate up to 120 °C and above, allowing them to produce process heat or steam at low pressure. Unlike standard heat pumps, they work with specific refrigerant fluid, industrial compressors and recovery from hot sources (process water, evaporative towers, refrigeration units). They are therefore suitable for industry, not just comfort.

  • If I have no waste heat,
can I still use Green Heat?

    Yes.
In the absence of heat recovery, Green Heat can use certified biomass as a primary source or be combined with an internal heat network or renewable PPAs to power the heat pump.
The configuration is defined according to the characteristics of the production site and local energy availability.

  • Is the heat produced sufficient to replace
    totally the gas?

In most cases, yes. HT-HP heat pumps can cover basic and intermediate demand, while biomass or hybrid systems cover peak load.
This reduces gas consumption by up to 90 percent while maintaining production continuity and operational safety.
